This will be a horror story. But it won't look like one. It won't because the narrator is me [...]. I can't forget anything. They say that's exactly my problem.
The novel Amulet by the Chilean award-winning writer Roberto Bolanio, which was transferred for the first time to the theatre stage, directed by Magda Korpi and performed by Angeliki Papathemeli, travels to Heraklion, Crete, after its first successful production at the Cyclades Street Theatre "Lefteris Voyatzis". The performance, for which Pavlos Pavlidis has composed original music, will be presented on Friday 25 October and Saturday 26 October, at the Experimental Stage of the Cultural Conference Centre of Heraklion Crete, organized by the Region of Crete, as part of the festival Crete 2024, in parallel action "WOMEN".
Auxilio Lacoutir has been locked up in the women's toilets of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for fourteen days. Unable to escape, she decides to stay inside, defending the last vestige of university asylum. In the climate of the global upheaval of the events of 1968, and in view of the first Olympic Games in a Latin American country, the Mexican government bluntly decides to "settle" the objectors. It takes over the university while drowning Tlatelolco in blood.
Bolanio's heroine, the mother of Mexican poetry, attempting to exorcise the trauma that haunts her, in a monologue to herself, transforms the wild setting in which she finds herself into a space of a secret observatory. Accompanied by the book by her favorite poet Pedro Garfia, a voice of a guardian angel, and hallucinatory encounters with related wandering beings, Auxilios, as another Cassandra, will take a journey through time; she will tell her story.
With the Amulet, Roberto Bolanio pays tribute to his lost generation. Mourning the cancelled future of his comrades, he will write about the defeat of an entire generation. For a generation of young people, who, while marching and will march from the beginning of time towards the abyss, their song will be heard; and it will be a song of war and love. A song that speaks about desire and pleasure. And this song is our talisman.
