We are counting down for Matala Festival 2016

The established summer rendezvous is approaching and Matala is ready to welcome thousands of visitors this summer. The music will signal the beginning of a magical three-day event that will leave us with the best impressions for yet another year.

Great artists of the Greek and foreign repertoire will be present at the Cave Stage of Matala, offering unique musical moments, while creating an unprecedented atmosphere that will perfectly match the sunsets of the hot June sunset.  

Onirama, Philippos Pliatsikas, Koza Mostra, Maraveyas Ilegal, Dub Pistols and Tonis Sfinos are some of the 15 bands that will turn Matala beach into an earthly paradise, offering unforgettable experiences.

The biggest music and international festival of the summer is here and is waiting for us for a unique three days of fun, joy and freedom.  

FESTIVAL PROGRAM - CAVE STAGE

Friday 17 June 2016 - DAY 1 "MATALA FESTIVAL"  

Alone Together: the opening signal for the Festival will be given at 5 pm where the musical group "Alone Together" will take the stage of Matala and will perform unforgettable songs of great artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Ten Years After, Cream & ZZ Top, taking the audience back to the '60s and '70s era. Soul Fire. Their performances in great artistic events such as "The Big Big Reggae Party in Sofia", the 1st and 2nd "Rastavibe Festival" and his collaboration with Mad Professor in 2004, worked effectively in the band's upward trajectory. This year, with their appearance on the stage of Matalon, they will give unique moments to the fans of reggae music, since they are one of the leading bands of the genre in our country. Billy Merziotis & After Hours. By interpreting songs of great artists such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix & Steve R Vanguan they will give us unique moments. Koza Mostra. Elias Kozas and his company are coming to take us on a journey and entertain us with their innovative music. The marriage of different musical currents is the secret of their success as ska, Balkan, rock, punk, indie and songs of the interwar period coexist harmoniously thanks to "Koza Mostra", giving unique melodies. Philippos Pliatsikas: Philip Pliatsikas invites us to a musical journey through time, a journey that will take us back to the birth of the greatest band that Greece has produced, "Pyx Lax". The music from the year 1987, his personal hits and songs of other artists will give us unforgettable musical moments, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia, emotion and fun.

Saturday 18 June 2016 - 2nd DAY "MATALA FESTIVAL 2016"  

Crossroads: with appearances at popular festivals and concerts all over Crete, Crossroads come for the 4th year to the Matala stage to give us powerful moments with music from the classic rock of the 60s and 70s to the hard rock and heavy metal of the 90s. With unique covers of songs by legendary bands such as scorpion, deep purple, whitesnake and bon jovi they will give rock music fans an unforgettable experience. Kulamacus The Band. At the same time, they will perform songs from their first personal work "Idio Material" offering fun and a lot of fun. Sgt. Pepper's Beatles Tribute Band. In an effort to cover the Beatles' multifaceted work, they perform highlights from the legendary band's albums, performing unforgettable hits such as "She Loves You," "Twist and Shout," "All You Need is Love" and many others. Onirama: One of the most popular and beloved pop bands in our country will be at the Cave Stage of Matala on Saturday night. Onirama will perform favorite songs from their personal collection while also performing covers of Greek and foreign songs. Full of energy, appetite and a great mood, Onirama promise us a magical musical two hours. Tonis Sfinos. He will be joined by the unique Playmates where they will perform unforgettable hits of the 60's, 70's and 80's while the sassy playful Lola and the two-meter candy Monica will sing merrily along. The man whose name has become associated with the Festival couldn't be missing and invites us to a wild party.  

Sunday 19 June 2016 - DAY 3 "MATALA FESTIVAL 2016"  

Pulse: A five-member English alternative rock band comes to rock music fans through a wild party at Matala beach. Their dynamic performance combined with original compositions and covers of favourite tracks offer a musical extravaganza. Their song "Confessions" was voted as the song of the quarter (March-June 2016) and they recently won first place in the music competition "Jumping Fish". Shade & the Soul Gig. Soul, funk, reggae and disco covers are their musical melodies from songs from the 60's to the 90's that have left a mark. Trying to touch the authentic sound and aesthetics of this particular music flow, they will offer an enjoyable musical spectacle while performing songs written by the band's English singer, Shade. The Moka Band. Offering unique moments through their live performances, the beloved band will be on the Matala stage on Sunday with songs from their personal album as well as with cleverly tweaked covers of well-known tracks that will stir us up and give us unforgettable musical moments. Dub Pistols: One of the top punk & ska act bands, the Dub Pistols, are coming directly from London, on Sunday 19 June, the last day of the festival. Founded by Barry Ashworth, from 1996 to the present day, the Dub Pistols, aka Pistoleros, are one of the best known bands across the globe, with millions of fans following them throughout their 20 years of active existence. Their mastery of blending different genres of music such as ska, reggae, dub, hip hop and rock'n'roll has led them to great collaborations with top artists such as Moby, Limp Bizkit, Ian Brown, Korn and Bono. With appearances at major festivals around the world, Pistoleros know how to skyrocket the mood through a fun musical party with no end in sight. Maraveyas Ilegal. His collaborations with great names of the Greek pedagram such as Dionysis Savvopoulos, Panagiotis Kalantzopoulos, Evanthia Reboutsika, Giota Nega and Elli Paspala, have offered him unique experiences while his participation in over 200 concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad, with his participation in the "Dranouter Folk Festival" in Belgium being the highlight, have significantly enriched his artistic career. With favorite songs such as "I don't ask for much", "Kiss me yet", "Lola" and many other well-known hits that have been loved by the Greek audience, Kostis Maraveias invites us to a wild party to give us the most impressive finale of the three-day event.

PARALLEL ACTIVITIES  

Many activities will be held during the three-day event inviting young and old to participate in the impressive games and workshops that will be located on the beach of Matala. A workshop for making and learning Juggling, a workshop of decorative constructions made of recyclables, a workshop of garment making, balloon making and mini disco by Frantic Freaks Productions will be there for the friends of art, creation and fun while traditional games made of recycled wood will be there, group games and spazo head games by KESAN and Kalumpa will offer messages of collectivity, harmony, solidarity and love, putting the participants in a different and unprecedented atmosphere similar to the one in which the "flower children" lived. There will also be workshops in theatre, painting, musical instrument making, construction from recyclable materials, a dance workshop for children up to 5 years old, and of course face & body painting.  

There will be daily music from Kiss 9.61, free training & dancing time from My Life Gym - Mires, trampoline, many more activities and many many many surprises!
